Rural development, the roles of food, water and biomass:
Opportunities and Challenges

Dakar, 14-16 November, 2005

Workshop report
Documents

The objective of the workshop was to examine the role of food, water and biomass in rural development in a context of global climate change. Analyses were made of integrated rural development and climate strategies with a view to guiding decision-making.

More specifically, participants at the Dakar workshop were to deepen discussions on the following questions:

  • What are the challenges and opportunities for integrated rural development and climate strategies with respect to food, water and biomass?
  • What are options for national/sectoral/regional policies to implement integrated approaches towards rural development and climate?
  • What international policies can enhance national implementation, esp. looking at trade & finance, development co-operation and the UNFCCC?

The Dakar workshop was attended by some fifty international experts, consultants,  researchers,  university professors, decision-makers and private actors from countries in Africa, Asia, North and South America and Europe. A number of international, regional and sub-regional development bodies were also represented, as were public and private institutions, civil society organisations, financial institutions, training centres, and development support bodies.

Documents for download are available in PDF format.
